Greek Yogurt
Thick, tangy, and protein-rich — Greek yogurt does the work of cream, with something good behind it.
Why I love it
It's one of the most useful things in my refrigerator. It makes a dressing creamy, a dip cool, a smoothie filling, and a bowl of fruit feel like dessert — all while quietly adding protein instead of just richness.
Buying it
Buy it plain and unsweetened — the flavored tubs hide a lot of sugar. Full-fat or 2% has the best flavor and staying power. Look for ‘live active cultures’ on the label.
Storing it
It keeps well past the date on the tub (trust your nose). If a little liquid gathers on top, just stir it back in — that's the whey, and it's meant to be there.
Using it
Swap it in for sour cream or mayonnaise almost anywhere. Whisk it into dressings, blend it into smoothies, dollop it onto soup, or serve it with honey and fruit. Strained through cheesecloth, it becomes labneh.
A little nutrition
Greek yogurt is high in protein and calcium and carries the live cultures (probiotics) that make it a friend to digestion — a genuinely nourishing base to build on.
Anywhere a recipe calls for sour cream or mayo, reach for plain Greek yogurt instead — you'll barely notice, and you'll add protein instead of just fat.
