Before we load anything, I look. It takes about ten minutes, and everything we do afterwards is built from what it shows.
Strengthening a body that is out of line just makes the crooked part stronger. So I want to know what I am working with before anything gets loaded.
Where your weight sits. Whether one shoulder sits higher. What the pelvis is doing when you think you are standing straight. Which side you tend to favour.
Front, both sides, and back. Feet up to the crown. Each view reads something the others cannot, which is why we do all of them rather than glancing from one angle.
I will also watch how you walk. Your gait, how you land, whether you articulate through the foot to the toes.
They are the only part of you touching the ground, and a lot of what happens above has to organise around them. Pinky toe, heel and big toe grounded.
The complaint often shows up much higher than the cause, so starting at the bottom is rarely wasted.
Nothing gets loaded before I have seen how you move. Anything that creates pain we avoid, and we work around it to get things moving and build strength where it is safe to.
We work in all planes of movement, to counter the flexion and forward imbalance a day asks of most of us.
