Healthy Laundry

Your laundry sits against your skin all day and all night. It’s worth a second look — and the swaps are easy and cheap.
The fragrance question
That “fresh laundry” smell is added fragrance — often dozens of undisclosed ingredients that linger on everything you wear and sleep in. If you love scent, a few drops of essential oil on a dryer ball does it more gently.
Choose a fragrance-free detergent
A simple, fragrance-free detergent cleans just as well without the perfume load. Kinder to sensitive skin, and to whoever’s breathing the fresh-out-of-the-dryer air.
Skip the softener and dryer sheets
Fabric softeners and dryer sheets coat your clothes and towels in fragrance and residue — they even make towels less absorbent over time. You lose nothing by dropping them.
Wool dryer balls instead
A set of wool dryer balls softens and speeds drying, lasts for years, and adds zero chemistry. Add a drop of essential oil if you miss the scent.
Wash new clothes before wearing
New fabric carries manufacturing residue, dyes, and finishes. A first wash rinses off the worst of it before it meets your skin.
Towels and bedding
The things against your skin longest deserve the cleanest routine — fragrance-free, washed often, dried fully. Natural fibers when you replace them.
Next time the detergent runs out, buy the fragrance-free one and a set of dryer balls. That single swap covers most of this.
When the mind needs somewhere to land
Everything in this wing points, in the end, to the same place — the breath, and the nervous system beneath it. It is why I built SOVA: a quiet companion for the moments in between.
- Today — a daily practice that aligns you before the day pulls you a dozen directions.
- Companion — a place to process any feeling, even the happy ones.
- Pages — a soft place to set your thoughts down and out of your head.
- The House — rooms of calm to step into, whenever you need one.
