The Healthy Bedroom

The Healthy Bedroom
The short answer

Your bedroom isn’t about the mattress. It’s about recovery — the quiet hours your body uses to repair everything the day asked of it.

Sleep is your greatest repair tool

Nothing you buy does for your body what a good night’s sleep does for free. Muscles rebuild, the mind sorts itself, hormones reset. Protecting sleep is protecting everything else.

Keep it cool

A cooler room helps you fall and stay asleep — somewhere around 65°F suits most people. Cool and covered beats warm and restless.

Darkness matters

Even a little light tells your brain it’s daytime. Blackout curtains or a soft eye mask, and turn the glowing devices to face the wall.

Let in fresh air

A cracked window or a few minutes of airing out keeps the room from going stale overnight. Fresh air sleeps better than stuffy.

Quiet

If your street or household is noisy, a small fan or soft white noise smooths the edges. The goal is fewer things pulling you back to the surface.

Less clutter

A calm room is easier to rest in than a busy one. Clear surfaces, a made bed, nothing shouting for attention. Your nervous system reads the room before you do.

Charge the phone elsewhere

If you can, sleep with the phone in another room — or at least across it. The last thing you touch at night and the first in the morning shouldn’t be a screen.

Natural fibers, when practical

Cotton, linen, and wool breathe in a way synthetics don’t. No need to replace everything — just lean natural as things wear out.

Morning sunlight

Light in your eyes early sets your whole day’s rhythm — and, hours later, your sleep. Open the curtains first thing, or step outside for a minute with your coffee.

Gina’s note

Pick the one that’s easiest tonight — cooler, darker, or phone across the room — and just do that. Better sleep is built one small change at a time.

The practice beneath it all

When the mind needs somewhere to land

Everything in this wing points, in the end, to the same place — the breath, and the nervous system beneath it. It is why I built SOVA: a quiet companion for the moments in between.
