Look Far From the ScreenLook Far From the Screen
Why this one

This is one of the most important things you can do at a desk, and the most overlooked. When you read or stare at a screen, your eyes lock onto one short, fixed distance and the tiny focusing muscles inside them stay contracted for hours — that constant strain is what leaves your eyes dry, tired, and blurry, and it is a genuine driver of headaches and eye fatigue. Looking far into the distance lets those muscles fully release and reset, and it reminds you to blink, which re-wets the surface of the eye. Every twenty minutes, look at something at least twenty feet away for about twenty seconds. Your eyes need the break as much as the rest of you.

How to do it

Lift your chin and focus out a window or on a point at least twenty feet away. Soften your gaze and let your eyes relax and reset.

Keep in mind

Twenty seconds of distance rests the eyes.

Every move: lightly lift your pelvic floor — a gentle lift, never a clench — and breathe slow and full (hold the stretches for about 5 easy breaths, at least 30 seconds). New to the lift? →
