Zip Up
Why this one

Tones the shoulders and upper arms and lifts you into taller posture.

8–10 reps

Breath — Inhale to prepare · Exhale to draw up

How to do it

Stand tall, the weights held together in front of your body. Draw both hands straight up the center line from the waist to just under the chin, the elbows lifting high and wide out to the sides — like pulling up a zipper — then lower with control.

Keep in mind

Lead with the elbows, wide and high, and keep the weights close to the body.

Every move: keep the weights light (1–3 lb) and move from your center. If your back arches or your ribs flare, the weight is too heavy — set it down and use your own resistance. The full series →
