Movement · Standing Arm Series
Shaving
The Series · Move 8 of 8

Why this one
Strengthens the backs of the arms and the shoulders through a full overhead reach.
8–10 reps
Breath — Inhale to prepare · Exhale to press up
How to do it
Stand tall with both hands together overhead, holding the weights in a triangle just behind the base of your head, elbows bent wide. Press the arms up and slightly forward as you exhale — as if shaving the back of your head — then bend the elbows back with control.
Keep in mind
Keep the ribs knit and the low back long — don’t arch as the arms travel overhead.
Every move: keep the weights light (1–3 lb) and move from your center. If your back arches or your ribs flare, the weight is too heavy — set it down and use your own resistance. The full series →
