Standing Arm Series

Move from your Powerhouse. Resist from your Core. The classic standing arm series with light weights — small resistance, deep control, strong and sculpted arms.
Set your base. 1 to 3-pound dumbbells (heavier ruins the posture). Stand in Pilates stance — heels together, toes a fist-width apart in a small “V,” inner thighs and glutes drawn together. Engage the abdominals, navel to spine. Work 8–10 slow, controlled reps.
Breathe. Inhale through the nose, expanding the ribs wide like an accordion; exhale through pursed lips, knitting the ribs and drawing belly to spine.
The Golden Rule. In Pilates, small hand weights are used to challenge your core stability, not to bulk up your arms. If your spine arches, your ribcage flares, or your lower back pinches during any movement, your weights are too heavy. Eliminate the weight completely and use your own muscular resistance.
