Movement · Standing Arm Series

90° Front

The Series · Move 1 of 8
90° Front
Why this one

Wakes up the shoulders and sets your posture while the core holds you steady — the foundation of the whole series.

8–10 reps

Breath — Inhale to reach the arms out · Exhale to curl in toward the temples

How to do it

Stand tall in Pilates stance, a light weight in each hand. Raise both arms in front of you to about shoulder height, elbows lifted, forearms up and palms facing you. Curl the weights in toward your temples as you exhale, then reach the arms back out on the inhale — the upper arms staying lifted and still.

Keep in mind

Keep the shoulders sliding down and the ribs knit — the arms move, the torso stays quiet.

Every move: keep the weights light (1–3 lb) and move from your center. If your back arches or your ribs flare, the weight is too heavy — set it down and use your own resistance. The full series →
