The Lighten Up Program

Lighten Up is exactly what it sounds like — a few gentle days of simple, whole-food eating for when you have drifted a little further into sugar and processed food than feels good. Not a punishment, not a detox, not forever. Just real food for a few days, so your energy steadies and your taste for sweetness resets.
What it really is
A soft reset — not a cleanse in the scary sense, and nothing you need to be afraid of. A few days (five is plenty) of eating close to the earth: vegetables, fruit, whole grains, beans, fish, nuts, water. You are not starving or juicing. You are simply setting down the added sugar and the packaged food for a little while, and letting your body find its baseline again. Reach for it anytime you feel puffy, sluggish, or caught in the sugar loop.
Say yes to
- Vegetables, in abundance
- Fruit
- Whole grains — quinoa, farro, brown rice, oats
- Beans & lentils
- Nuts & seeds
- Fish, eggs, and lean meats
- Water with lemon
- Herbal teas
- A little stevia, if you need sweetness
Ease off, just for a few days
- Added sugar in all its names — cane sugar, corn syrup, HFCS, agave, and the rest
- Processed and packaged foods
- Alcohol
- Highly refined grains — white bread, white pasta
You are not banishing any of these forever. You are giving them a short rest, so you can actually feel the difference when they are gone.
Prepare your kitchen
Before you begin, take five minutes: move the tempting packaged sweets out of sight, and set yourself up to succeed — fruit on the counter, washed greens and cut vegetables at eye level in the fridge. When the easy choice is the good one, the whole thing gets easy. My Stock Your Kitchen list and Set the Week are exactly for this.

A simple rhythm
Breakfast: eggs, or oats with berries, or a yogurt bowl. Lunch & dinner: a plate that is half vegetables, a quarter protein, a quarter whole grain or beans — the Mediterranean Plate. Between: fruit, nuts, a boiled egg, hummus and vegetables. All day: water with lemon, herbal tea. And move gently — a walk, a little stretching — and sleep a touch more if you can.
How you’ll feel
The first day or two, you may miss the sweetness. That is normal, and it passes. By day three or four, most women notice steadier energy, fewer cravings, and that their morning fruit suddenly tastes candy-sweet. That is your palate coming back to life.
Coming out of it
When your few days are done, come back gently. Keep most of what felt good, and let the treats return as treats — savored, not automatic. That is the whole point: not never again, just a clearer sense of when a little something sweet is truly worth it.
Lighten Up is not a diet, and it is not about willpower or guilt. It is a kind, short reset you can return to whenever you have drifted — a way to feel like yourself again. Health is built on gentle, consistent habits over time, never on perfection. (And if you have any blood-sugar concerns, check with your doctor first — I am a wellness coach, not a physician.)
When the mind needs somewhere to land
A reset is one kind of care; the nervous system is another. It is why I built SOVA — a quiet companion for the moments in between.
