Steam Inhalation
From The Kitchen · Tonics & Shots · For a stuffy chest · inhale, don't drink
You'll need
- A bowl of just-boiled water
- A few drops of eucalyptus or peppermint oil, or a spoon of dried eucalyptus or thyme
- A bath towel
How to make it
Lean over the bowl — not too close, steam burns — drape the towel over your head, close your eyes, and breathe deeply through nose and mouth for 5–10 minutes. It loosens congestion when a cold settles in the chest. For young children, skip the oils — plain steam is plenty.
A gentle word
This is a traditional, food-based tonic — comfort and support, not medicine, and not a cure for anything. If you’re pregnant, nursing, on medication, or genuinely unwell, check with your doctor first. And no honey for babies under one year.
To your health — the real, homemade kind.
