Elderberry Syrup
From The Kitchen · Tonics & Shots · The pantry immune staple · make ahead
You'll need
- ½ cup dried elderberries
- 3 cups water
- 1 cinnamon stick, a few cloves, a slice of ginger
- ~1 cup raw honey
How to make it
Simmer the berries and spices ~45 minutes, until reduced by half. Strain, cool slightly, then stir in the honey. Take a teaspoon (adults, a tablespoon) daily through the season. Keeps 2–3 weeks in the fridge.
A gentle word
This is a traditional, food-based tonic — comfort and support, not medicine, and not a cure for anything. If you’re pregnant, nursing, on medication, or genuinely unwell, check with your doctor first. And no honey for babies under one year.
To your health — the real, homemade kind.
