Elderberry Syrup
From The Kitchen · Tonics & Shots · The pantry immune staple · make ahead
You'll need
- ½ cup dried elderberries
- 3 cups water
- 1 cinnamon stick, a few cloves, a slice of ginger
- ~1 cup raw honey
How to make it
Simmer the berries and spices ~45 minutes, until reduced by half. Strain, cool slightly, then stir in the honey. Take a teaspoon (adults, a tablespoon) daily through the season. Keeps 2–3 weeks in the fridge.
A gentle word
This is a traditional, food-based tonic, comfort and support, not medicine, and not a cure for anything. If you’re pregnant, nursing, on medication, or genuinely unwell, check with your doctor first. And no honey for babies under one year.
To your health, the real, homemade kind.
