The One Step

not the whole staircase — the next stair

Change doesn’t ask for a five-year plan or ten new goals. Those live in the head, and the head is not where crossings happen. It asks for one honest step your body can actually take — and a little of what helps the body take it. That’s all this page is for.

1The one step

The next small, true thing — the one that’s a little scary but entirely doable. Just one.

2Is it yours?

Sit with it for a breath. Does it feel like a want to or a should? The body knows the difference before the mind admits it.

a “should” I picked up somewheretruly mine

If it’s more “should” than yours, that’s worth knowing. You can make it smaller, or set it down.

3What helps your body take it

A step is easier to take from a settled place than a braced one. Choose what would steady you first — before, not instead of.

4When

Not someday. Name a small, kind window.

One step, taken, changes the body’s vote. Each time you move and survive it, your nervous system learns the new level is safe — and the next step gets easier to reach. Small and repeatable beats big and brittle, every time.

When it’s time to steady before you move, that’s what SOVA is for — breath, sound, and rest to settle the body first. Want the bigger picture? Read The Leap.
